FAU National Alumni Association Hosts Annual Holiday Reception

BOCA RATON, FL (January 6, 2012) –  The Florida Atlantic University National Alumni Association (FAUNAA) recently hosted its annual Holiday Wine and Cheese Reception, bringing FAU alumni together to celebrate the holiday season while collecting toys for children in need.

Nearly 200 alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University attended the event, which took place at the Marleen & Harold Forkas Alumni Center at FAU’s Boca Raton campus. Toys collected by the FAUNAA were donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

Romayne Berry, chair of the FAUNAA board of directors, welcomed guests on behalf of the association. Paul Metcalf, assistant director for alumni relations, introduced former FAU football coach Howard Schnellenberger and presented him with a lifetime membership from the FAUNAA.

“Beverlee and I are honored and delighted to have been given the opportunity to breathe life into FAU’s promising young team,” said Schnellenberger. “We would like to thank all alumni and friends of the university for supporting us. Many thanks to the FAUNAA for giving me the honor of a lifetime membership.”

Schnellenberger announced his retirement as head coach of FAU’s football team in August, but will remain on staff at FAU as the University Ambassador At Large. In this position, he will campaign to generate support for FAU athletics and FAU Stadium.
