FAU Calendar of Events for the Week of December 6, 2010
BOCA RATON, FL (December 6, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University will host the following events:
FAU Libraries Host ‘GRAPHIX/ Sequence Image Story: The Graphic Novel,’ an Exhibition
The free exhibition runs through Monday, January 31 at FAU’s Wimberly Library, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
The exhibition is a survey of contemporary and historic novels, including Signal to Noise, a 2007 contemporary favorite by Dave McKean, and Gods’ Man, a reprint of the 1929 novel in pictures by American artist Lynd Ward. Richard Kyle, a comics critic, is linked to coining the term graphic novel, but it is nearly impossible to name the first graphic novel. The genre developed over time and is rooted in comics. Sequence, image and story are the key elements that make a graphic novel, and the exhibition is based on those elements. GRAPHIX is displayed in the library’s main lobby and outside of the second floor administrative office during regular library hours, which can be found at www.library.fau.edu/geninfo/hours.htm?boca. A small portion of the exhibition is inside of the Jaffe center and can be viewed Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. Metered parking for visitors is available in the lot at the library. For more information, contact Jonas McCaffery, the exhibition’s curator, at 561-297- 0226.
