University Club Holds Cocktail Reception to Honor New FAU President

Contributes $5,000 Toward the President’s Scholarship Challenge Fund

BOCA RATON, FL (November 5, 2010) – The University Club of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc., recently hosted a cocktail reception at the Delray Beach Club. The newly installed 6th president of FAU, Dr. Mary Jane Saunders, was the guest of honor.

University Club President Marlis Hadeed welcomed nearly 60 guests and gave a brief history of President Saunders' background before presenting her with a check from the University Club for $5,000 toward the President’s Scholarship Challenge Fund.

Along with leaders from the FAU Foundation Board of Directors, Saunders created the initiative to match new and increased gifts to the university designated for annual scholarship support. Saunders pledged $50,000 to launch this initiative. Contributions through an annual gift designated to student scholarships at FAU will be matched dollar for dollar through this program. More than $100,000 has already been raised to match scholarship gifts.

“For many University Club members this was their first chance to meet President Saunders,” said Hadeed. “I am very pleased that so many of our members were able to attend this wonderful and informative event. We’re excited to partner with President Saunders in her commitment to engaging the community as FAU continues to grow under her leadership.”

Guests enjoyed music by the premier jazz group, The Uwallo Messengers, under the direction of Dr. Tim Walters.

University Club members work tirelessly throughout the year to help FAU. If you would like to join the University Club or find out more information about upcoming events, contact Laura Kraft at 561-297-3575.
