FAU to Host Target Corporation Case Studies Competition

DAVIE, FL (November 30, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University’s global policy and strategy class within the College of Business will host a Target Corporation Case Studies competition on Tuesday, December 1 from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in Room 132 of the LA building, 2912 College Avenue, Davie campus.

Four finalist teams, consisting of four students from Dr. Kurt Wurthmann’s class, will present their strategic recommendations developed over the course of the fall semester to a panel of Target Corporation executives. The winning team selected by the Target executives will receive a scholarship of $1,000 each.

The cases relate specifically to a Target business opportunity or to a current business trend within the retail industry, and are designed to expose students to actual challenges that retailers face in today’s competitive market, as well as encourage students to incorporate a semester’s worth of course materials into their proposed strategies.

Target Case Studies are designed for colleges and universities to use in promoting hands-on learning for their students. These real-world business challenges provide students with the chance to create strategies for solving current opportunities in Target’s business and/or the retail industry. In the process, students gain a stronger understanding of the complexities of the retail industry.

There will be opportunities to interview the winning team members, Target executives,

and faculty, as well as photo opportunities when the Target executives award a “big check” to the winning team at the end of the event.

For more information, contact Kurt Wurthmann at 954-236-1000 or kwurthma@fau.edu.
