BOCA RATON , FL (November 12, 2008) – Florida Atlantic University’s Weppner Center for Civic Engagement and Service will recognize “National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week” by hosting its first Cardboard Campus. The event will be take place at FAU’s Jupiter campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, beginning on Friday, November 14 at 6 p.m. through Saturday, November 15 at 7 a.m.

Cardboard Campus is designed to offer students first-hand experience on the conditions that homeless people have to live with on a daily basis. Event organizers will provide participants with a cardboard box to sleep in outside, rain or shine.  It is requested that all cell phones and iPods be left at home. Students will be provided a small breakfast at the end of the event.

Cardboard Campus also will give participants an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming Alternative Spring Break (ASB) to Washington, D.C. to work with the National Homeless Coalition. By attending Cardboard Campus, students will receive priority in the selection process to attend the ASB.
