FAU’s Christine E. Lynn
College of Nursing Receives $10,000 Gift from VITAS
Innovative Hospice Care®
BOCA
RATON, FL (October 19, 2010)
–
Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of
Nursing has received a $10,000 gift from VITAS Innovative Hospice
Care
®
,
the nation’s largest provider of end-of-life care.
“As a leader and innovator in hospice care for more than 30
years, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care has a commitment and
responsibility to support and further the development of programs
such as those being established at FAU’s College of
Nursing,”
said
Susan Acocella, general manager of VITAS in Palm Beach
County. “
From
the students of today will come the leaders of tomorrow, and VITAS
is very proud and honored to be a partner with FAU in their
endeavors to create innovative curriculums for end of life
care.”
The
College of Nursing’s teaching and research philosophy focuses
on the concept of Caring in nursing, including advancing the
science, studying its meaning, practicing the art and living it
day-to-day.
Currently,
the College of Nursing offers bachelor’s, master’s and
doctoral degrees to approximately 1,300 nursing students.
“In order to care compassionately and competently for all
those entrusted to our care, students and practicing nurses need to
understand the special nature of hospice and palliative
care,” said Anne Boykin, College of Nursing dean.
“Our intention is to use this generous gift to develop and
teach courses specific to issues facing those who are experiencing
end of life situations. We believe that many will benefit
from this additional knowledge.”
