FAU to Celebrate
‘Homecoming 2009: Past, Present and
Future’
BOCA RATON, FL (October 9, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University will celebrate “Homecoming 2009: Past, Present and Future,” from Friday, October 23 through Sunday, November 1 on FAU’s Boca Raton, Broward, Jupiter and Treasure Coast campuses.
“This year’s Homecoming is for the FAU community to remember the past, celebrate the present and anticipate the future of this growing university,” said Michelle Perkins, associate director for student activities in the department of student affairs at FAU. “We are excited to see the FAU community and beyond get involved with all aspects of Homecoming. This is an opportunity to celebrate and share in the Owl spirit.”

events are open to the public unless otherwise indicated. The

Freaker’s Ball Concert featuring Fabolous and Pitbull

Union
FAU’s 2009 Freaker’s Ball Concert will feature Hip-Hop artist Fabolous and rapper Pitbull. Attendees must be 16 years of age or older due to mature content. annual 5K Fun Run
10 a.m., FAU Recreation and Fitness Center
The third annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run, sponsored by FAU’s Department of Campus Recreation and the Office of Alumni Affairs, will start and finish at the Recreation and Fitness Center. The route consists of a 5K loop around the Boca Raton campus. T-shirts will be given to all participants, and the race is free for students with their Owl Card. Cost is $10 for FAU affiliates, faculty, staff, FAU National Alumni Association members, and $20 for the general public. Refreshments will be served, and prizes will be raffled off. FAU’s Weppner Center for Civic Engagement and Service will host “extravaCANza,” a canned food drive competition. FAU faculty, staff and students are invited to form a team, collect canned goods and use them to build a sculpture based on the 2009 Homecoming theme, “Past, Present and Future.” All canned goods used during the event will be donated to Boca Helping Hands.

The Talon Awards are given by the Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association to select individuals who demonstrate service and leadership to FAU and the community. An award will be given to one student, one alumna, one faculty member and one community member. A reception in the Marleen and Harold Forkas Alumni Center will follow the award ceremony.

The third annual Homecoming Parade will run through FAU’s Boca Raton campus and feature FAU Interim President John Pritchett, local middle and high school marching bands, along with accompanying floats from various FAU student organizations, university departments and athletics. Fall Family Fest is a fun-filled, carnival-themed event with music, games and prizes, a bounce hounce, face painting, balloon art and free food. The Homecoming bonfire will take place at 8 p.m., celebrating the anticipation of FAU’s football game against Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, October 31.

Come watch the FAU Owls as they take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State University. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime. Tickets in the “Crunch Zone” are $12 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. Tickets on the sidelines are $25. FAU students get in free with their Owl card.

The third annual Golf Cart Parade will take participants through the FAU Jupiter and Abacoa community. Golf carts on-campus will be provided to student groups and campus departments to decorate. Submissions to the parade will be judged on the following: decorations, display of school spirit, use of the Homecoming theme, creativity and any costumes worn related to the theme. Following the parade, participants and parade followers will be treated to ice cream in The Burrow.
