FAU’s
Peaceful Mind/Peaceful World Series Offers Workshops and
Lectures on Seeking Inner Peace
BOCA RATON (October 1, 2009) – Florida Atlantic
University’s Peace Studies Program presents the Peaceful
Mind/Peaceful World outreach series. Now in its 5th year, the
series offers ways to calm the mind and lift the spirit by helping
people address challenges and offering practical advice in the
search for inner peace.
Three workshops will be offered this year. The first, which will be presented on Saturday, November 7, is entitled “Experience Freedom, Compassion and Unity through Forgiveness.” The workshop teaches practical exercises to help access the pathway to forgiveness of ourselves and others. The second workshop, entitled “Our Actions Make a Difference: The Details of Your Life Matter,” will be presented on Saturday, January 16. In this workshop, participants will use practices to help see beyond successes and failures. The third workshop, presented on Saturday, May 1, is a passage meditation workshop entitled “Make Your Life a Work of Art.” All workshops run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Senate Chambers of the Student Union Building on FAU’s Boca Raton campus. The registration fee for each workshop is $10 (which includes lunch), and pre-registration must be made at fauf.fau.edu/peacefulmind or by calling 561-297-2337.
There will also be two lectures in the series. James Finley, a notable retreat leader and clinical psychologist, will be at FAU on Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m. Through the guidance of his spiritual director, the renowned monk and spiritual author Thomas Merton, Finley discovered the wisdom that can be found in yoga, Zen and other contemplative traditions of the world’s great religions. Finley is the author of several books, including The Contemplative Heart. Finley’s lecture will take place in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus. On Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m., Caroline Myss, a celebrated New York Times best-selling author, will discuss her new book Defy Gravity: Healing Beyond the Bounds of Reason, which explores the mystical qualities involved in the experience of healing. Myss’ other books include Anatomy of the Spirit, Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can, Sacred Contracts, and Entering the Castle. Myss’ lecture will take place in the FAU Arena on the Boca Raton campus. Tickets for each lecture are $25 and can be purchased at www.fauevents.com or by calling 800-564-9539.
The Peaceful Mind/Peaceful World Series is presented by FAU’s Peace Studies Program in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, in partnership with the Schmidt Family Foundation.
