FAU’s College of Business Honors Mark B. Templeton with 2008 Business Leader of the Year Award

BOCA RATON, FL (October 31, 2008) - Florida Atlantic University’s Barry Kaye College of Business is hosting the 2008 Business Leader of the Year annual awards breakfast on Tuesday, November 4 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. This year’s program celebrates the accomplishments of Mark B. Templeton, Citrix Systems president and chief executive officer.

“In an age when the leadership of ‘Corporate America’ is under siege, Mark Templeton is an outstanding role model on how to lead a major corporation effectively,” said Dr. J. Dennis Coates, dean of FAU’s College of Business.  “Mark has underscored the commitment of Citrix to maintaining its global headquarters in the South Florida community, thus signaling to the broader business community that South Florida is the right place to call home.”

The Business Leader of the Year award celebrates the accomplishments of business leaders and their ongoing legacy in improving the overall environment of business.   According to FAU, Templeton meets the criteria of this award, exhibiting traits which measure effective leadership in business, including vision, innovation and change, knowledge and experience, transparency and integrity, and social responsibility.

Templeton joined Citrix as vice president of marketing in 1995, when Citrix originally went public and had $95 million in revenue.  He has served as president of the $1.4 billion leader in application delivery infrastructure since January 1998 and as chief executive officer since June 2001.

Under Templeton’s leadership, Citrix has become one of the world’s top technology companies. In the 1990s, he was responsible for Citrix’s marketing strategy in server-based computing, a strategy based on the company’s ground-breaking application virtualization technology, helping the company to achieve market leadership with approximately 80 percent market share.

Over the past few years, Templeton has led the evolution of Citrix from a company with a single product, customer segment, and go-to-market path to a global powerhouse with multiple products, business models, customer segments and go-to-market channels. In that time, Citrix has also grown to more than 5,000 global employees who help more than 210,000 organizations worldwide – including all of the Fortune 100 and 99 percent of the Fortune Global 500.

Templeton holds a B.A. in product design from North Carolina State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business.   He is a passionate participant in many community and charitable organizations, and has received numerous leadership awards including the AeA Abacus Award for Outstanding High-Tech Executive, “Business-person of the Year” (EVIE Award), the Excalibur Award and others.

A tribute video will highlight the character and accomplishments of Templeton. Other program speakers include FAU President Frank T. Brogan and Coates. The program’s master of ceremonies will be FAU Trustee Armand Grossman.

Since 1991, FAU’s College of Business has presented the Business Leader of the Year award program, honoring the work of outstanding contributors to the overall business climate of the southeast region of Florida and the state.   Templeton joins other highly honored recipients of the award, including Ronald Assaf, Alexander Dreyfoos, Jim Moran, Wayne Huizenga, Carl DeSantis, Bud Paxson, Jerry Levin, Pat Moran, Jeb Bush, Alan Levan, Steve Odland and others.

Underwriters, sponsors and co-sponsors partnered with FAU’s College of Business to assist in hosting the award program.   The presenting sponsor of the program is BankAtlantic.   Major underwriters include Citrix Systems and Huizenga Holdings. Other program sponsors include City Furniture, HDG Mansur, Northwestern Mutual Financial Networks – The Striano Group, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Gold Coast Venture Capital Association, JM Family Enterprises, MAPEI, Maroone and Suffolk Construction, Bank of America, Bernstein Global Wealth Management, FINRA, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Office Depot and SchenkelSchultz Architecture.
