FAU Hosts Events to Commemorate
Constitution Day
BOCA RATON, FL (September 14, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University will host several events to commemorate Constitution Day, the anniversary of the creation and signing of the United States Constitution. The following events will take place:
FAU Libraries Host Letterpress Appreciation Day Open
House at the Jaffe Center
The free event will take place
on Saturday, September 18, from noon to 5:30
p.m. at the
Arthur
and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts at FAU Libraries, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
The Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts Gallery is
hosting an inaugural “Letterpress Appreciation Day Open
House” in celebration of the 0.918-inch height of standard
Anglo-American type materials. The open house offers an
introduction to the print aspects of the Jaffe center, which is
home to four different relief presses that are used by students
and artists to create hand-printed books and literary broadsides.
Guests may tour the shop, print on the center’s antique
Wesel Iron Handpress and learn the difference between pressing
print and actually printing. Since Constitution Day falls on the
day prior to the open house, participants will print a piece on
the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which has been the
subject of much recent political debate. Metered parking for
visitors is available in the lot outside of the library. For more
information on the open house, visit
www.jaffecollection.org
and click “events,” or contact John Cutrone at
jcutrone@fau.edu
or 561-297-0455.
