FAU Calendar of Events for Week of September 6, 2010
BOCA RATON, FL (September 7, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University will host the following events:
FAU Libraries Host Inter-Florida Fluxus Tour at the
Jaffe Center
The free event will take place on
Tuesday, September 14, at 12:31 p.m.
at the
Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts
at FAU Libraries, 777 Glades Road,
Boca Raton campus
.
The Inter-Florida Fluxus Tour will perform as part of the
Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center’s current exhibition,
“The Carbon Alternative: 1980s Book Arts Subculture
– Copy Art, Mail Art, Fluxus.” The event will
feature a series of performances by artists Ginny Lloyd, Keith
Buchholz, Reid Wood, Reed Altemus and Bibiana Maltos. Fluxus
practitioners specialize in collage, sound art, music, video
and poetry, with an emphasis on sound poetry, visual poetry and
concrete poetry. Scores usually consist of a few lines
and descriptions of actions to be performed, rather than
dialogue. Most performances are brief and simple, some are
meant to blur the lines between performer and audience, and
others are meant to blur the lines between performance and
reality. The performances seek to elevate the banal, to be
mindful of the mundane, and to question what is considered high
culture art. John Cage, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Geoffrey
Hendricks and Alison Knowles are among the artists who practice
Fluxus. Donations are encouraged. For more information on
the event, go to

Constitution Day falls on the day prior to the open house,

political debate. Metered parking for visitors is available in
