FAU Calendar of Events for Week
of August 30, 2010
BOCA RATON, FL (August 30, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University will host the following events:
The Jaffe
Center for Book Arts at FAU Libraries Hosts “The Carbon
Alternative: 1980s Book Arts Subculture Copy Art, Mail Art,
Fluxus,” an Exhibition
The free exhibition will take place
now through Monday, October 18 at the Arthur and Mata
Jaffe Center for Book Arts at FAU Libraries, 777
Glades Road
, Boca Raton campus.
Copy art, mail art, fluxus and other movements took off in
the 1980s as artists began using grassroots print technology,
such as xerography, stamp art and video phone. The works in the
exhibition are from the Jaffe collection and from the collection
of Ginny Lloyd, an artist who was in the heart of it all in San
Francisco in the 1980s. Artists developed techniques that
resulted in interesting color separation, captured motion and
flashes of light captured on the page. Mail art, artwork that was
created in one geographic area and sent through the mail to other
artists for completion, and books from the Fluxus movement, a
movement concerned with the flow and happening of art, are also
part of the exhibition. The Carbon Alternative can be viewed
during regular library hours, which can be found at
www.library.fau/geninfo/hours.htm?boca
or by calling 561-297-3770. For more information, contact John
Cutrone at 561-297-0226 or

Jonathan Stein that Explores Gender and Violence

Make-up” and “The Healing Process,” begin
moments after an assault, and illustrate not only the

that beyond the surface of one’s skin, lies a greater more
poignant hurt, fear and agony and will exist in a victim for a
lifetime. Hours are Sundays from 1:30 to 10 p.m.; Monday through
Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5
