FAU Celebrates Summer Commencement
BOCA RATON, FL (August 10, 2010) - Florida Atlantic University will confer more than 1,500 degrees today during three commencement ceremonies held in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on the Boca Raton campus. The new graduates join more than 116,000 alumni who have graduated from FAU since the university opened its doors in 1964.
“Commencement is a wonderful opportunity for students, and their family and friends to celebrate such an important achievement in one’s life,” said FAU President MJ Saunders. “I look forward to shaking the hand of each graduate and congratulating them on this truly memorable moment.”
Some interesting statistics regarding the summer graduating class include the fact that the graduates represent 39 countries. Fifty-four of the degree recipients were over the age of 50, with the oldest graduate being 64 and the youngest being 20.
For the convenience of family members and friends who cannot attend the commencement ceremonies, the proceedings will be cybercast at www.fau.edu.
