FAU Designates September as Safety Month
A Wide Variety of Safety Events to Take Place on FAU Campuses
BOCA RATON , FL (August 28, 2007) – Florida Atlantic University has designated September as Safety Month and will host a series of events on the University’s campuses throughout the course of the month. Events will take place September 4-7 at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.
The 21 st FAU Wellness Expo is being combined with “Personal Safety Day” events on Wednesday, September 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Breezeway. Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to "Investigate Wellness" and learn about health, wellness and safety resources available on campus as well as within the surrounding community. The event also will feature health screenings and interactive exhibits.
Michael DeStefano, a stand-up comedian and campus lecturer with a powerful message for students about alcohol, safe sex and HIV/AIDS also will lecture from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Grand Palm Room of the Student Union.
“Safety Day” will take place on Thursday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Boca campus Breezeway. The event will cover topics such as hurricane preparedness, food safety, fire safety, as well as occupational health and safety.
FAU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take part in the festivities, which also include live demonstrations from Boca Raton Fire-Rescue on Thursday, September 6.
The Safety Month schedule for other campuses is as follows:
· Jupiter campus – week of September 10
· Broward campus – week of September 17
· Treasure Coast campus – week of September 24
