FAU’s Wilkes Honors College Hosts Honors Summer Institute
JUPITER, FL (July 6, 2007) – Florida Atlantic University’s Wilkes Honors College will welcome 34 high school students to the Honors Summer Institute on Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m. The event will take place in the AD Auditorium on the John D. MacArthur Campus. The campus is located at 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter.
In its second year, the Honors Summer Institute is a three-week residential program conducted in collaboration with Scripps Florida. The theme for this year’s program is “Perspectives on the Environment.” High-achieving 10 th and 11 th grade students will take one of three honors courses:
· Genetics, Disease, and the Environment, which will examine the molecular basis of several diseases, the environment that allows them to prosper, and research that may lead to their eradication.
· Bioprospecting and Chemistry of Natural Products, which will introduce the study of chemical ecology and its implications for the development of new pharmaceuticals.
· Psychology, Human Behavior, and the Environment, which will study the reciprocal relationship between psychology and the natural, built, and social environment.
