Balistreri Realty Rolls a Strike for FAU Football
Spares No Effort to Support the FAU Scholarship Fund
BOCA RATON, FL (June 28, 2007) – Balistreri Realty continues to raise awareness and scholarship dollars for Florida Atlantic University football. Company president and CEO, James Balistreri, and vice president, Joseph Balisteri, joined the University’s efforts as the 14 th Football Founder in 1999, prior to the Owls taking the field. Since that time, their company has been involved with nearly every FAU sport, assisting with ticket drives and printed materials. In addition to these activities, in 2004, James and Joseph Balistreri established a student scholarship in honor of their father. With this gift they became members of the Director’s Club, a giving society at FAU that specifically funds full athletic scholarships.
Most recently, the Balistreri Charitable Foundation hosted the fifth annual Rock ‘n’ Bowl. Held annually around Memorial Day, this event salutes the giving spirit of Balistreri Realty agents. This year, the event included a special remembrance of the company’s late founder, Joseph S. Balistreri.
Thirty-two bowling teams entered the tournament to raise funds to underwrite the FAU football athletic scholarship. Joe Balistreri, or “DJ Joey” as he is known on Rock ‘n’ Bowl nights, kept a nonstop pace going with music while his Bowlettes (agent helpers) worked the crowd, raising additional funds with raffles, silent auctions and a 50-50 cash drawing. The Balistreri brothers presented Howard Schnellenberger, FAU’s head football coach, and Terry Mohajir, FAU associate athletics director, with a check for $12,500 on behalf of the Balistreri Charitable Foundation.
The event continues to add participants each year, including friends like Bank of America, Davidson Hurricane Protection, Sommerkamp Insurance and Financial Services, The Beacon Group and Florida Shores Bank.
“It’s part of our commitment to support local institutions and programs that strengthen and improve our communities,” said James Balistreri.
Coach Schnellenberger accepted the scholarship check, the fourth such check offered by Balistreri Realty. “We are delighted to be a part of this terrific event, to be part of something that benefits our young people. This is just wonderful, and I want you to know that we greatly appreciate it.”
The Owls will take the field for the football season opener on Saturday, September 1 at Lockhart Stadium when they play host to Middle Tennessee State University.
