Shades of Green “Memories are Made of This” Event Raises More than $100,000 for FAU’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center
BOCA RATON, FL (May 10, 2011) – More than
130 guests recently took a stroll down memory lane at the Shades of
Green “Memories are Made of This” event to benefit the
Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center of the Christine E.
Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University. The annual
event raised more than $100,000 to benefit the center.
Held at the Milhous Museum of Collectibles, the evening was hosted
by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Milhous. Guests enjoyed a rare view of one
of the largest collections of antique mechanical, musical
instruments and a wide variety of American memorabilia,
including vintage cars, a 1900 barber shop, grandfather
clocks, beautiful art, rare lighting, and a 19
th century carousel that is in mint and working
condition.
The E.M. Lynn Foundation was the Grand Sponsor. Joining Louis
and Anne Green as Rolls Royce Sponsors was Holli Rockwell in loving
memory of Herbert S. Rockwell. The event, presented by the
center’s Caring Hearts Auxiliary, was co-chaired by Pat
Thomas and Holli Rockwell. The committee included Debbie Gonzalez,
Morgan Green, Debbie Lindstrom and Lynda Williams. Anne Boykin,
Ph.D., retiring dean of the College of Nursing, was the Honoree
Extraordinaire.
“The Museum provided a perfect setting for our
‘Memories are Made of This’ theme,” said Thomas,
who is also president of the Auxiliary. “Thanks to our guests
and sponsors, we are able to support scholarships for day center
participants and caregiver support programs.”
The Memory and Wellness Center, located on FAU’s Boca Raton
campus, is part of Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E.
Lynn College of Nursing and averages more than 14,000 visits per
year. The center offers a wide range of services and programs to
individuals with mild to moderate memory disorders, including
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Visits often begin
with a comprehensive memory evaluation. The evaluation results can
help in the diagnosis of a memory disorder and the development of a
treatment plan in cooperation with a patient’s personal
physicians. The day center provides an active place for families to
bring spouses or parents who are experiencing memory loss, and the
caregiver programs provide much needed support.
“We are grateful to the members of our Caring Hearts
Auxiliary for their dedication and hard work and to our
sponsors,” said Kathleen Valentine, Ph.D., M.S.N., R.N.,
director of the center. “Their generosity and commitment to
the center enables us to continue to provide compassionate,
innovative services for families living with memory
disorders.”
Sponsors, attendees and auctioned items donated by Jewels in Time,
Boca Raton Resort and Club, Ocean Reef Club, and Seagate Hotel and
Spa contributed to the funds raised for the center.
