FAU Presents Free Concert and Festival Rep Preview at Mizner Park Amphitheatre
BOCA RATON (May 19, 2010) – The department of theatre and dance in the School of the Arts in Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, the City of Boca Raton, and the Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park invite the public to bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy a free concert featuring FAU’s Summer Concert Band along with performers from FAU’s 2010 Festival Repertory Theatre series. The event is on Friday, June 18 at 7 p.m. in the Mizner Park Amphitheatre, located at 590 Plaza Real, Boca Raton.
This annual and free community event is a summer favorite at Mizner Park. This year, the FAU summer concert band will perform big band favorites. Then, performers from FAU’s Festival Rep production of “And the Tony Goes To: Celebrating 60 Years of Broadway’s Best Musicals” will perform some of the songs from the FAU production.
This is the 12 th year of FAU’s Festival Rep, which is a presentation of rotating plays. This year, it runs from Saturday, June 19 through Sunday, July 25, and includes the musical revue, Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Donald Margulies’ “Shipwrecked.” Most of the performances will take place in FAU’s intimate Studio One theatre on the Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. This year, for the first time, there will also be performances in the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center, which is located in Mizner Park, next to Zed Restaurant and across from Robb & Stuckey’s. A full schedule of plays can be found and tickets can be purchased at www.fauevents.com or by calling 800-564-9539.
