FAU Hosts Michael and Madelyn Savarick Music Competition
BOCA RATON (May 27, 2009) – The department of music in The School of the Arts in Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters recently hosted the Michael and Madelyn Savarick Music Competition. The winners of this annual competition for musicians ages 11-18 in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties were announced at a concert on FAU’s Boca Raton campus. First-place winners were:
- Lior Willinger Piano age 16 Lake Worth
- Melanie Sierra Voice age 15 Delray Beach
- Elisha Willinger Clarinet age 17 Lake Worth
- Adrian Grossman Composition age 17 Weston
Judges included FAU faculty members Kyle Prescott (winds/percussion), Stacie Rossow (voice), Leonid Treer (piano) and Stuart Glazer (composition). The competitors were judged on their artistry and individuality. The judges also evaluated their focus, and the quality of their personal music statements and concepts. The competition was sponsored by Madelyn Savarick with support from Wachovia.
