FAU to Host Global Education
Symposium
BOCA RATON, FL (April 15, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Education will host the “Global Education Symposium 2010: Learning and Leadership in a Diverse World,” featuring a keynote address by Dr. James A. Banks, on Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel, 2000 NW 19th St., in Boca Raton.
The Global Education Symposium will bring together educators and students from Pre-K through grade 12, along with higher education institutions, for a day of discussion and learning about the links between multicultural education and global education. Dr. James Banks, a world-renowned scholar and author about issues of diversity, will give the luncheon keynote speech, titled “Multicultural and Citizenship Education: Global Perspectives.” In his presentation, Banks will focus on diverse educational approaches from various parts of the world, and discuss best practices and successes that can be adapted in any classroom.
Banks is the Kerry and Linda Killinger Endowed Chair in Diversity Studies, as well as the founding director of the Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Washington, Seattle. His speech will be followed by a response from Dr. Margarita Pinkos, executive director of multicultural education for the Palm Beach County Public School District. There also will be informative presentations and conversations related to internationalizing Pre-K through grade 12 education, internationalizing higher education, as well as global projects and issues.
