FAU’s Department of Theatre and Dance Presents ‘Red Herring’
BOCA RATON, FL (April 5, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University’s department of theatre and dance in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents Michael Hollinger’s “Red Herring” from Friday, April 9 through Sunday, April 18 in the Studio One Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission tickets are $16. Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.fauevents.com , by calling 800-564-9539 or at the theatre one hour prior to the performance.
Three love stories, a murder mystery and a nuclear espionage plot converge in this dark comedy about marriage and other explosive devices. It's 1952. America's on the verge of the H-bomb, Dwight Eisenhower's on the campaign trail, and “I Love Lucy” is on on Monday nights. Meanwhile, Senator Joe McCarthy's daughter just got engaged to a Soviet spy, and Boston detective Maggie Pelletier has to find out who dumped the dead guy in the Harbor or else lose out on a honeymoon in Havana.
“’Red Herring’ is a blunt-nosed, sharp-eyed look at love and tying, and untying, and retying, the knot,” said Des Gallant, FAU assistant professor and director of the show. “The ‘Philadelphia Enquirer’ had it right when they called it ‘Exceedingly funny. A genuinely human comedy about six people in search of love in a mixed-up world.’”
