FAU to Celebrate Spring Commencement
BOCA RATON, FL (April 30, 2007) – More than 2,500 students will receive their degrees from Florida Atlantic University during five spring commencement ceremonies on Thursday, May 3 and Friday, May 4. The ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday, and 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium, 777 Glades Road . These students will join more than 100,000 alumni who have graduated from FAU since the University opened its doors.
The commencement schedule includes –
· Thursday, 9 a.m. – Sherry Plymale will receive the President’s Distinguished Service Medallion. Plymale served as both a founding member and chair of the FAU Board of Trustees.
· Thursday, 1 p.m. – R. David Paulison will receive the FAU National Alumni Association Hall of Fame Award. Paulison is the Under Secretary of Federal Emergency Management and Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Also, Dr. Jack Guistwhite will be given the President’s Distinguished Service Medallion. Guistwhite came to FAU in 1963 to serve as the newly created University Registrar and Director of Educational Services.
· Friday, 1 p.m. – The Honorable Bill Nelson, U.S. Senator, will receive the President’s Distinguished Service Medallion. Nelson was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2000. He currently serves on the Senate Commerce, Armed Services, Budget, Foreign Relations and Aging committees and is recognized as the leading congressional expert on NASA.
