FAU Equity Analyst Program Kicks Off Inaugural Year
EAP’s Students Compete
Amongst Top Florida Universities
BOCA RATON, FL (March 22, 2011) – Students in the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University have been selected from its Equity Analyst Program (EAP) as one of the top four teams to participate in the 2011 CFA Florida Investment Research Challenge. In its inaugural year, the EAP is the only program of its kind in Florida, and was designed to equip FAU business students with financial analysis and equity research skills honed by developing financial models and conducting detailed investment research reports on South Florida-based public companies.
Conducted in the state-of-the art Trading Room located in the Office Depot Center for Executive Education at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, the Friday morning sessions provide students exposure to top investment professionals, such as JPMorgan and investor Christopher Prindle, CFA, to assist students in developing their skills. The EAP program also has benefited from the help of Michael Kupinski, director of equity research at Noble Research in Boca Raton.
“Given the nascent nature of the program, the success of the talented group of students speaks volumes,” says Rainford Knight, Ph.D., founder of the EAP and professor of finance at FAU. “The goal of the program is to continue to enhance the skill set of the students, build a solid reputation for equity research and increase the participation of the business community with FAU's College of Business.”
The CFA Institute Annual Global Investment Research Challenge gathers students, investment industry professionals, as well as public and privately held corporate sponsors together for a competition involving universities, including the University of Florida, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida State University, Stetson University and University of North Florida. Assembled teams of three to five students recently worked directly with Chico’s FAS, Inc. in researching and preparing a company analysis. The teams’ final presentations were evaluated by a high-profile panel consisting of chief investment officers, portfolio managers and research directors from the region's leading investment management firms. FAU recently was invited to participate in the next stage of the competition by delivering an oral presentation of their report on Chico’s FAS, Inc
“The Equity Analyst Program was initiated because of Dr. Knight’s passion for teaching students real world pragmatic skills and knowledge to succeed in the financial industry,” said Steve zum Tobel, FAU alumnus and director of First American Capital and Trading Corporation.
