FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society Offers Broad Variety of Classes for Spring 2011 Series
BOCA RATON, FL (March 18, 2011)
–
Florida Atlantic University’s Lifelong Learning Society (LLS)
in Boca Raton will offer two series of course lectures and six
one-time special lectures during its spring 2011 series from
Monday, March 21 through Thursday, June 2. All spring courses will
take place at the Barry & Florence Friedberg Auditorium, 777
Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
“The course
offerings include diverse subjects and topics ranging from
politics, art, history, literature, music, photography, law,
science and technology and film studies to some very practical
information-oriented lectures such as those ina special retirement
series and the participatory audience-interactive sessions on
learning how to be happy,” said Herbert Shapiro, Ph.D.,
assistant provost of the LLS. “If variety is the
‘spice of life,’ as the cliché goes, then this
program is a well-seasoned one for spring.”
The first spring
session begins Monday, March 21 and ends Friday, April 15 with
course topics that include film and literature, politics and
history, Yiddish comedic films, an historic overview of
photography, and a guide to retirement challenges.
The second spring
session, which runs from Monday, May 2 to Thursday, June 2 will
feature classes on happiness, history, literature, science and
technology, films on family dynamics, Yiddish drama, and
end-of-life issues.
Special one-time
lectures include:
• “The Golden Boys: The Evolution of the Tenor Voice in the Post-World War II Era” with Giuseppe Albanese, author and video documentarian on opera, on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m.
• “The Roots of Rock ‘n Roll” with Robert S. Weber, a musical theory and harmony teacher and member of the Delray Beach Chorale, on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m.
• “Shakespeare’s Magic: The Bard Still Casts His Spell” with Laura Wayth, FAU assistant professor of acting, on Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m.

The LLS on the Boca Raton campus was established in 1980 to provide
adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through
non-credit, university-level courses with no homework, grades or
tests.
