FAU to Host Events in Honor of Women's History
Month
BOCA RATON, FL (March 10, 2011) – Florida Atlantic University will commemorate Women’s History Month with a series of events throughout the month of March and first week of April at its Boca Raton, Broward, Jupiter and Treasure Coast campuses. All events are open to the general public.
The following events will take place at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:
Our Bodies, Our Message: How Women Have Used Our
Physicality to Effect Change
Wednesday, March 16, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Live Oak Pavilion, Student Union
Sequoia Reed, a self-proclaimed eco-feminist and
“ethical pornographer,” will deliver this
presentation about the relationships between pornography,
feminism and eco-activism.

FAU’s Third Annual Women’s Leadership
Forum
Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Office Depot Center for Executive Education, College of Business
FAU’s Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies,
the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship and the President’s
Diversity Committee host the third annual Women’s
Leadership Forum, titled “Women, Business and
Power.” The guest speaker is Alex Sink, former chief
financial officer for the State of Florida and former president
of Florida operations of Bank of America. Her presentation
is titled “Women in Business: Do Values Matter?” Cost
to attend the lecture and lunch is $50.

The Mystery of the Menses
Tuesday, March 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Sugar Palm Room, Student Union
This workshop will provide an in-depth look at the
intricacies of the menstrual cycle, covering reproductive anatomy
and physiology, cyclical changes and hormonal fluctuations.
Also, alternatives to conventional menstrual products will be
explored.

Fertility Awareness Method Workshop
Tuesday, March 22, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Sugar Palm Room, Student Union
Participants will learn about the Fertility Awareness
Method (FAM), which is the practice of using the body’s
natural signs and symptoms to determine fertile and infertile
phases of the menstrual cycle.

Power Leading the Way
Wednesday, March 30, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Barry Kaye Hall, Room 102, College of Business
Patti Solis Doyle, former assistant to U.S. President Bill
Clinton, former campaign manager for U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton
and the first Hispanic woman to lead a presidential effort in the
United States, will talk about what it is like to hold such
positions and more.

Florida Consortium for Women’s Studies
Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
University Theater, Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters
The consortium, titled “Gendered and Racialized
Technologies of Change: Moving Discredited Knowledge from the
Margins to the Center,” includes a schedule of
presentations with keynote speakers such as Gail Dines, Ph.D.,
professor of sociology and women’s studies at Wheelock
College, and Marlene Bastien, executive director of the Haitian
Women organization in Miami.

“Lunch and Learn” will feature motivational speaker
and celebrity make-up artist, Victoria Duke.

‘Vagina Monologues’
Friday, March 25, from 6 to 10 p.m.
LA Auditorium, 3200 College Ave., Davie campus
The
Vagina Monologues will be performed by FAU staff, students and
volunteers. There is a minimum $5 donation, and all
proceeds will benefit Action Today for Brighter Tomorrows
(AT4BT).

discussion by a guest speaker living with autism.
