Public Invited to Spring Visual Arts
Bachelor of Fine Arts
Exhibition includes works in
ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography and
sculpture
BOCA RATON, FL (March 26, 2010) – The department of visual arts and art history in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University will host the opening reception of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition, Sýmvolo, in the Ritter Gallery on FAU’s Boca Raton campus on Thursday, April 15 from 7 to 10 p.m. The exhibition will continue through Friday, May 7. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
Sýmvolo is a collaborative exhibition of the works of graduating studio artists in the art senior seminar course. The works are in a variety of media, including ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. The class designs and installs the exhibition, and they plan and stage opening night events. These activities help to prepare students for professional life in the visual arts and design.
“Our senior seminar is the ‘capstone’ course for BFA majors in studio arts and graphic design,” said Amy Broderick, associate professor of art and art history. “The event celebrates the completion of undergraduate studies in a program that cultivates individual growth, and advocates for the creative investigation of the artist through the study of technique, history and critical dialogue in studio art.”
The University Galleries programs, including the BFA exhibition, are made possible in part through support from Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs, Florida Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts; Palm Beach County Cultural Council; R.A. Ritter Foundation; FAU Student Government through student activity fees; and individual friends of the University Galleries.
The University Galleries are open Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 1 to 5 p.m. The galleries are closed Sunday and Monday. Adult groups, public school field trips and university classes are welcome at alternative hours by appointment. Guided tours for groups are also available by appointment.
