FAU Hosts Free Hearing Screenings for Tinnitus Awareness

BOCA RATON, FL (March 30, 2009) –Florida Atlantic University’s National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association will be commemorating National Tinnitus Awareness on Tuesday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to noon with free hearing screenings and tinnitus advice. The screenings will take place on the fourth floor of FAU’s College of Education building, Communication Disorders Clinic, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. No appointments are necessary.

It is estimated that 50 million people suffer from tinnitus, and two million people see their doctor every year for tinnitus, or continuous ringing or noise in the ears. Many people with tinnitus do not understand that the condition is manageable and few are offered treatment options. Because of this fact, Dr. Ali Danesh is opening up his clinic to tinnitus sufferers as a way to offer treatment options.

Danesh, the director of audiology at the FAU Speech and Hearing Clinic, has not only been conducting tinnitus research, but he has been lending support to tinnitus sufferers for more than a decade. He also is a help network volunteer for the American Tinnitus Association.

Parking is available in the lots just outside of the College of Education.   For more information, call the Communication Disorders Clinic at 561-297-2258, e-mail or visit .
