FAU Presents Debut of Klezmer East Band
BOCA RATON, FL (March 5, 2007) – Florida Atlantic University’s School of the Arts presents the debut of the new group, Klezmer East, on Saturday, March 24 at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission is $15 at the door. FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni may obtain free admission with ID.
Klezmer East was formed by clarinetist Paul Green and keyboard artist/arranger Bob Weiner. The group is dedicated to performing both traditional Klezmer classics from Europe and more contemporary Jewish pieces from the United States. The program, which will be announced from the stage, will consist of traditional favorites from the European and American Klezmer repertoire.
Klezmer is a tradition of Jewish secular music that developed in the 15 th century in Eastern Europe. It was brought to the United States in the 19 th century and is still popular today.
Klezmer East, the newest ensemble-in-residence at FAU, consists of musicians Bob Weiner, keyboards; Seth Merlin, trumpet; Dave Levitan, trombone; Roy Fantel, drums and Sunshine Raddock, vocals.
