FAU Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center Awarded Grant for Art Program
BOCA RATON, FL (March 1, 2007) - The Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University has been awarded a grant of $11,550 from the Mosaic Fund of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, Inc. The grant will fund an advanced art program for memory-impaired day center participants at the Green Center.
Participants in this innovative program will create paintings that depict Florida landscapes. The group will also work together to create a mural depicting the theme Fantasia on Florida Landscapes. The mural will be placed on permanent display at the Center.
Classes will be conducted under the guidance of local artist Patricia Saidon. She has taught classes at the Center for several years, and has a special talent of getting positive outcomes from her students.
“The opportunities for creativity become much more limited when people develop memory problems,” said Dr. Ruth Tappen, director of the Green Center. “This is a wonderful way for memory-impaired individuals to express themselves and create something of value.”
The Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center is dedicated to providing innovative services and therapeutic programs specific to the needs of individuals with memory problems, and to supporting and nurturing their caregivers. In addition to other services, the Center provides an adult day center that offers individuals with mild to moderate memory impairment life-enriching programs designed to stimulate cognitive functioning and increase social interaction and communication.
