FAU Hosts His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Public Lecture
Historic First-time Visit to Palm
Beach County
BOCA RATON, FL (February 24, 2010) – His Holiness the 14 th Dalai Lama of Tibet made his first-ever visit to Palm Beach County today, when he visited Florida Atlantic University for a public lecture titled “Compassion as a Pillar of World Peace.” His Holiness addressed FAU’s students, faculty, staff and members of the general community in the FAU arena, as one of four stops he made during his visit to South Florida.
“Florida Atlantic University is honored to host the Dalai Lama, a true messenger of peace, compassion and understanding,” said FAU Interim President John Pritchett. “This is a historic moment for the university and truly a wonderful educational opportunity for our students, faculty, staff and community. His Holiness will undoubtedly provide words of inspiration and thought.”
The public address also was telecast at FAU’s Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium for more than 2,300 FAU students, faculty and staff. Prior to the lecture, the FAU Chamber Singers and Heather Coltman, professor and chair of music in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, performed a musical prelude conducted by Dr. Patricia P. Fleitas.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama did not accept any honorarium. Proceeds from the event, if there were any, will go to charitable or educational purposes.
