FAU Offers Two Free Concerts
BOCA RATON (February 12, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University’s department of music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents a weekend filled with music with a concert presented by the FAU Jazz Band on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m. and a concert with the FAU Wind Ensemble and the FAU Symphony Band on Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts are free, with a suggested donation of $10, and take place in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.
The Jazz Band will present “Peri’s Scope” by Bill Evans; “Terry’s Song” by Greg Yasinitsky; “Hot House” by Tad Dameron; “Hickory and Twine” by Alan Baylock; “Caravan” by Duke Ellington and Juan Tizo; and “Attitude Dance” by Stephen Kupka and Emilio Castillo. The FAU Jazz Band is directed by Neal Bonsanti, who has performed and toured with Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, The Bee Gees and others. He has been awarded seven Platinum Records.
The Wind Ensemble will present “Canzona” by Peter Mennin; “Children's March” by Percy Grainger; and “Give Us this Day,” a short symphony for wind ensemble by David Maslanka. The Symphony Band will present “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; “Ngoma za Kenya” by Paul Basler; “Symphonic Dance No. 2,The Maskers" by Clifton Williams; and “Yagi Bushi,” by Iwai. The FAU Wind Ensemble is conducted by Kyle Prescott, and the FAU Symphony Band is conducted by Sean Murray. There will also be three graduate assistant conductors, John Harris, Sandi Bruington and Daniel Harvey.
