The Bone Marrow Register Drive kick-off is designed to help people diagnosed with blood cancer. To be tested, volunteers simply will have their mouths swabbed. The analysis of the collected saliva indicates whether the potential donor shares six of 10 bone marrow antigens with a patient on the registry, which will be discussed at a later date. If a match is found, the volunteer then has the option of donating their bone marrow to the patient in need.
