FAU Announces Establishment of Patricia M. Courtenay Doctoral Fellowship Endowment

BOCA RATON (February 21, 2008) –  Interim Dean Sandra Norman in Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters recently announced the establishment of the Patricia M. Courtenay Doctoral Fellowship Endowment by Dr. Walter Courtenay, Professor Emeritus of Zoology in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, in memory of his wife Pat. Pat Courtenay was the executive secretary to the dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters from 1995 until she retired in 1999.

Pat’s tenure at FAU began in 1979 when she started as a secretary in the College of Education.   In 1984, she joined the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science as a senior secretary and then moved to the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Humanities in 1995.

Courtenay established the Patricia M. Courtenay Doctoral Fellowship Endowment to honor his wife’s memory and to benefit students in the Ph.D. in comparative studies program. Pat was actively involved in the administrative organization of the Ph.D. program during its establishment.

“I am pleased to make this tribute to my wife, which will benefit students and honor her memory in perpetuity,” said Courtenay.

Anyone interested in contributing to this fund should contact Laurie Carney at 561-297-3606.
