FAU Announces Winners of 12th Annual Internet Math Competition
BOCA RATON, FL (February 8, 2008) – Florida Atlantic University and the department of mathematical sciences of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science are pleased to announce the winners of the 12 th Annual Internet Math Competition for the academic year 2007-2008. The competition was open to all high school students in the state of Florida.
Shelly Jin, a junior at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach, won first prize, and Frank Rodriguez, a senior from Miami Springs Senior High School, placed second. Students awarded third prize were Sean Daryan, a junior at Wellington High School in Wellington; Marc Hendel, a senior at Atlantic Community High School; and Francis J. Musella, a junior at American Heritage School in Delray Beach.
The purpose of the competition was to encourage student’s interest in solving mathematical problems of varying difficulty, to challenge their mathematics skills and ingenuity, and to prepare them for the more formal competitions which will take place in the spring and are conducted by the Mathematical Association of America.
