Florida
Atlantic University will host the following events:
Author Peter Thomson to Speak at FAU’s Jupiter
Campus
Peter Thomson will present “The Road to Baikal: An
Environmental Journalist’s Trek to the World’s Great
Lake,” on
Wednesday, February 2, at 7 p.m. in the
AD (Administration) auditorium at FAU’s MacArthur
Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter.
The event is free and open to the public.

The Scripps Howard Institute on the Environment will host
journalist Peter Thomson as part of the “Environmental
Writers” series. Thomson is the environment editor of
the daily BBC/PRI public radio show, “The World.” A
veteran environmental journalist, he is founding producer of
National Public Radio’s “Living on Earth.” His
book,
Sacred Sea: A Journey to Lake Baikal, is a chronicle of
his round-the-world trek and the challenges facing this famed
inland sea.

Dr. Claudia Hillinger of Max Planck to Speak at Wilkes
Honors College Scholars Day
Dr. Claudia Hillinger will speak at the Honors College
Forum on
Friday, February 4, at 1 p.m. in the
AD (Administration) auditorium at
FAU’s MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive,
Jupiter.

Dr. Claudia Hillinger of the Max Planck Society will update
the community on current events at Max Planck and its partnerships
with Florida Atlantic University. This event is part of the Honors
College Scholars Day, in which the top group of Honors College
applicants are interviewed for the College's prestige scholarships.
The Max Planck Society, based in Germany, is building a
facility on FAU's MacArthur Campus in Jupiter, next to the Scripps
Florida Research Institute. The organization is currently operating
in temporary facilities at FAU’s Jupiter campus.

Fiesta Maya to be Celebrated for 10
th Year in Jupiter
Members of Jupiter’s Guatemalan community, along
with students, faculty and staff from FAU’s John D.
MacArthur Campus, will celebrate the 10th annual Fiesta Maya on
Sunday, February 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at
FAU’s recreation fields, 5353 Parkside Drive,
Jupiter. The event is free, and refreshments will be
available for purchase. For more information, call

Sponsored by Corn-Maya, Inc. and FAU’s Corn Maya
Club, this day of cultural exchange and celebration will include
a soccer match, traditional procession and ceremony, dance
theater, live performances by marimba groups, as well as food and
fun. The event begins with soccer on FAU Jupiter’s
main recreation field and proceeds to the eastern recreation
field behind the Education Classroom (EC) building for the
remaining festivities. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and
will be followed by music and dancing at 11:30 a.m.
