FAU to Host Nobel Prize Winner Paul Krugman
Lecture to Address 'State of
the Slump'
BOCA RATON, FL (January 13, 2011) – Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business and the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will host a lecture with Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman, Ph.D., on Friday, February 4, at 2 p.m. at FAU’s University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
In his lecture, “State of the Slump,” Krugman will speak about the state of the recent global financial crisis and current efforts to revive the economy in what many consider the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. The event is free and open to the public; however, a ticket is required for entry.
Krugman is the sole recipient of the 2008 Nobel Memorial Prize in economic sciences for his study of international trade and globalization. His research focuses on international trade, where he is known as one of the founders of “new trade theory.” Krugman also works in international finance, with a concentration on currency crises. His many honors in the field of economics include the prestigious John Bates Clark Medal (1991), the Eccles Prize for Excellence in Economic Writing (1991), the Adam Smith Award (1995), the Nikkei Prize (2001) and the Alonso Prize (2002). Krugman served on the staff of the Council of Economic Advisors from 1982-83.
In addition to academic research, Krugman writes extensively and is as an insightful, outspoken Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times. His latest trade books, both bestsellers, include The Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008, a history of recent economic troubles and their implications for economic policy, and The Conscience of a Liberal, a study of the political economy of economic inequality and its relationship with political polarization from the Gilded Age to the present.
