FAU’s Student Government President Accepted into Master’s Program at The University of Oxford
BOCA RATON, FL (January 30, 2007) – Austin Shaw, president of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Florida Atlantic University, has been accepted into a three-year master’s degree program in the Honour School of Theology at The University of Oxford (England), one of the most demanding master’s curricula in the world.
Shaw will study Greek, biblical exegesis, systematic theology, moral philosophy and patristics. He is one of 50 students in the United States selected for the program and one of a few in the specific field. The 22-year-old will begin the fall semester, known as the Michaelmas term, in October.
Oxford based Shaw’s acceptance on his academic grades, along with three, 2,500-word research papers, a personal statement, a letter of recommendation and several interviews based on perception and thought.
“I would not have been admitted into this program without the vision of the administration, the vigilance and investment of my professors, and the encouragement and patience of my peers,” said Shaw. “I am grateful for this University and the wonderful opportunities it has provided. FAU is a world class institution, and I could not have attained these accomplishments elsewhere.”
Shaw will graduate from FAU in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, as well as a minor in history and a Certificate of Classical Studies. A native of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, he currently resides in Pompano Beach.
