More than 300 employees were recognized for more than 3,000 years of service to FAU at last month's Employee Service Awards.

A recent ceremony dedicated the Cindy and Stuart Markowitz Medical Student Lounge for medical students in the lobby of the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Science Center. The couple's recent gift created the Endowed Fund for Biomedical Science Programming. The center is the home to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at FAU. The 4th Annual Sweethearts Dinner was held earlier this year at the Holiday Inn-Highland Beach. The dinner celebrates couples who are both alumni of FAU (on the left, Brian Oliver '98 and his wife Cassandra Oliver '01; on the right, Gloria Branch ’93 and her husband Geoff Branch ’93).
In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the San Francisco Earthquake and the recent tragedies of hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, FAU and the Lifelong Learning Society presented a symposium on “Disaster in America: From San Francisco to New Orleans and Beyond” last month in the Tamar & Milton Maltz Auditorium on the John D. MacArthur Campus. Faculty and staff from five FAU colleges and institutes participated. The 10th Annual Festival of Nations was held last month as more than 1,000 members of the FAU community gathered by the Social Science Building rotunda to hear bands, sample food, play games, watch performances and enjoy festivities showcasing the world's cultures. Many of the participants are from FAU's diverse international clubs. The festival is funded by the Student Government and the Cultural Diversity Committee and co-sponsored by International Student and Scholar Services.
