Rear Admiral Andrew Singer: Director for Intelligence,
United States Pacific Command

Rear Admiral Andrew Singer was the Director of the United States Pacific Command. He had a checkered career as an officer in the United States Navy.

He was commissioned as an ensign after completing Officer Candidate School, in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon receiving his commission, Singer reported to the U.S.S. Midway in Yokosuka, Japan in February 1978. Eight months later, on October 1, 1978, he was designated as a Warfare Officer.

His Naval career kept him on the move. In November 1978, he reported to the U.S.S. Pegasus, in Little Creek, Virginia. He was then assigned as an Assignment officer for Surface Warfare and General Unrestricted Line Officers in the Chief of Naval Personnel, 1981-1984.

Admiral Singer became a Navy Cryptologist and he reported to Commander, Naval Security Group Command, in Washington, D.C. 1986, as Director, Fleet Support Division, Special Operations Department. He remained here until July 1990 when he reported as Naval Security Group Department Head at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Western Pacific, Dededo, Guam.

Rear Admiral Singer became the Fleet Cryptologist Command and Control Warfare Officer on the Staff of the Commander, Seventh Fleet, embarked on the U.S.S. Blue Ridge, in Yokosuka, Japan, 1972. He was then assigned to the National War College and graduated in June 1995. He then served as Chief, SIGINT and Information Operations Branch, in the Staff of the Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Command at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

In 1998, he was transferred to the Commander, Naval Security Group Command, Ft, George G. Meade, Md., where he served as the director of Operations, Warfare and Information Operations.

Admiral Singer was then given the command of the NSA’s Kunia Regional Security Operations Center and Naval Security Group Activity Kunia. In October 2004, he reported as Director for Intelligence, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp Smith, Hawaii.

Admiral Singer received many awards, decorations and recognitions: Joint Navy Unit Commendations; Expeditionary Medals and Ribbons; a B.S. degree in Political Science from Rutgers University; and a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
