Admiral Aaron Landes:
Director of Naval Reserve

Rear Admiral Aaron Landes, an ordained rabbi, served in the Chaplains Corps for 34 years and when he retired he was the director of the Naval Reserve Chaplains. He supervised more than 700 chaplains and he was the first rabbi to hold this position.
Landes received his Bachelor of Arts Summa Cum Laude from Yeshiva College. He earned Rabbinical and Master’s degrees from the Jewish Theological Seminary. He received honorary doctorates from the Jewish Theological Seminary, Muhlenberg College and Gratz College.
Landes served 36 years as the senior rabbi of Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. When he retired, he was designated as Rabbi Emeritus. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the new Beth Sholom Congregation Temple.
Rear Admiral Landes helped to establish the All Faiths Chapel at the Naval Academy. He was active in many organizations and he served on many of their boards. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1989.
