Welcome to Florida Atlantic University’s central resource on everything related to Leadership and Professional Development.  Higher education can be a strange profession.  We spend years in college and graduate school learning to become experts in a given field and, if we’re successful, are given jobs where we’re expected to do a lot of things no one ever taught us how to do: develop curriculum proposals, chair committees, teach classes that can range from small seminars to large lectures, mentor our peers, resolve conflicts, and balance these many responsibilities with our commitments to our families and community.  Then, if we’re successful at those tasks that no one ever taught us how to do, we may get to be a director, chair, or dean and taken on even more responsibilities that no one ever taught us how to perform.

The Program for Leadership and Professional Development has been created as a better alternative to this all-too-common situation.  Building on the latest research in higher education administration and best practices at colleges and universities worldwide, the program offers opportunities to help current and prospective academic leaders become more effective at the tasks that make a university great.  Register for our workshops, apply to work with an experienced mentor (or offer to serve as a mentor yourself), and use the resources available through this website to improve your own leadership and engage in meaningful professional development.

No matter whether you’re an FAU employee or a visitor from outside the university, this website is for you.  We’re glad you’re here, and best wishes for your own leadership development!
