Interfaith Panel on stage

The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University hosted a panel discussion between representatives of different faith backgrounds on the issue of gun violence, specifically the problem of mass shootings.

The College hosted this event in an effort to understand this problem better and explore potential solutions to these recurring tragedies in American life.

The panelists included Rabbi Barry Silver of Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor in Boynton Beach; Reverend Melissa Pierce of Generation Church in Jupiter; and Father John D'Mello of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens.

The panel was moderated by Christopher Strain, Ph.D., professor of History and American Studies and author of the book Reload: Rethinking Violence in American Life. Organized by two students—Abigail Chavez and Mariana Lopes—the event was made possible by a generous gift from Bob and Shirley Koo.
