Campus Recreation

The MacArthur Campus in Jupiter is proud to provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities for students of all abilities and interests. The Office of Student Life & Recreation, in collaboration with the Recreation Agency of MacArthur Student Government, encourages healthy living and wellness activities.

Organized Team Sports

Intramural leagues: We participate in the city leagues of both Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter. Previous competitive teams were fielded in flag football, soccer, co-ed volleyball and co-ed softball.

Informal sports: Weather permitting, informal team sports are played daily on the multipurpose field on campus. These include flag football, soccer and ultimate Frisbee. Days and times are set each semester.

On-campus tournaments: These include 3-on-3 basketball, ultimate Frisbee and co-ed sand volleyball. The tourneys usually last less than a week, some concluding on the same day.

Individual Fitness Classes
Through arrangements with the Office of Student Life & Recreation and the Town of Jupiter Wellness programs, Student Government funds individual fitness classes offered at the Jupiter Community Center.

Class sign-ups are at the beginning of each semester and a winter session is often offered. Classes are FREE to all enrolled FAU-Jupiter students.

Classes offered last year include: Pilates, Yoga, Aerobic Dance, Stretch & Strengthen, Line Dancing (various levels), Ballet, Latin Dancing and Swing dancing (various levels).

Occasionally classes will be offered on campus for a specific activity such as Salsa or Swing Dancing, and lessons for games like tennis.

Fitness Gym
Student Government arranges for FREE gym memberships for enrolled students during the main academic year (excluding summer terms).  Name and location of the gym facilities will be announced soon.

Gym sign-ups will be held on Sept. 4 & 6.

The Burrow tournaments

As part of First Fridays, various games night will be held in The Burrow throughout the year, most often on Fridays. Tourneys scheduled for the upcoming year include ping pong, billiards, John Madden football, air hockey, board games, and new games on PS2 or Xbox. Prizes are often awarded.

On-Campus Recreational Facilities

The Pool: The pool is open most days during the academic year and is always staffed by a certified lifeguard. Hours change each semester and are posted and sent via e-mail. Call 561.799.8681 to check on the current schedule.

The pool is heated when necessary. The pool deck has tables and chairs as well as a hammock and brand new patio loungers.

Special events are held at the pool throughout the year. Watch for special announcements.

Sand Volleyball/Tennis/Basketball Courts

All three are lighted by timers to allow evening play. Benches are available, and showers are provided in the pool locker rooms.

Multipurpose Field

Located behind the SR building, this is where pick-up games occur. Soccer goals can be moved around depending on the game, and the field is lined by the Recreation agency.

A NEW Multi-Purpose Field will be under construction during the 2006-07 school year. This field will replace the current field once a walkway is built to connect the SR building with the EC building and the Library. The new field will consist of of real field grass, leveled and maintained year round. It will also be lighted for evening play. Stay tuned for more details!

Equipment checkout:
A basketball, Frisbee, and soccer ball are available for check-out at The Burrow – just bring your FAU Owl Card. A volleyball is available for check-out at the pool during pool operational hours.

Clubs and Organizations can check-out other equipment such as coolers, tennis racquets, badminton, beach volleyball sets, kick balls and other items.

Off Campus Recreation:

South Florida’s great weather allows year-round recreation. From campus, it’s a short drive or easy bike ride to Juno Beach. Several local and state parks are located nearby as well. There are numerous 5K and other races in the area.

Located within a few miles of campus are a bowling alley, billiards hall, skate park, playgrounds, jogging trails, tennis and racquetball courts. As an FAU student, you also have access to the Boca Raton campus recreation facilities as well. Additionally, there are plenty of professional sports in the area to watch: Florida Marlins, Miami Heat, Moroso racetrack, polo matches and of course FAU Athletics.

For more information, contact Heather Bishara, Assistant Director of Student Life and Recreation.
