Seminar for International Teaching Assistants

As part of our commitment to excellence in teaching, Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has established a minimum level of English language and teaching proficiency, which all International Teaching Assistants (ITA) must demonstrate before they begin classroom instruction. In order to assure that these standards are upheld, the Seminar for International Teaching Assistants (SITA) was created in cooperation with the Graduate College, International Services (IS), Student Affairs, and the Department of Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature (LLCL).

SITA is designed to prepare international graduate students to teach/assist with the instruction of certain undergraduate courses at FAU. Such preparation includes developing an understanding of the teaching role in American university classrooms, training in English pronunciation and intonation, practicing classroom communication skills, and learning strategies. SITA assists international Teaching Assistants during their first semester of teaching at FAU.

All International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) must attend the SITA course and successfully pass a Panel Presentation prior to beginning their teaching assignments.

International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) admitted for Spring 2017 must plan to arrive by January 3 , 2017.

All international TAs are required to enroll in the SITA course. Annually, the course is scheduled for Spring and Fall semesters. To register for the SITA training, click  here.
