BlackBerry and iPhone Reminders
As the use of BlackBerrys and iPhones increased across FAU campuses, procedures and processes were put into effect by IRM to monitor purchases of both devices and to inform users of their responsibilities and what IRM will be responsible for. What follows should be of assistance to current BlackBerry/iPhone users and those contemplating a purchase.
BlackBerry devices:
1. Departments should not attempt to transfer existing BlackBerry devices to new users without contacting IRM for proper BlackBerry configuration. Failure to contact IRM may cause loss of features and functionality.
2. Individually purchased (non-FAU) BlackBerry devices cannot be added to IRM’s Exchange Server.
3. For any new requests, or to upgrade an existing BlackBerry unit, CSI requires an order be placed via FAU’s Helpdesk system (www.fau.edu/helpdesk). Dean or Director level approval is required for all new and upgrade purchases. There is a $50 license fee to add a new user to the exchange server. Departments requesting BlackBerry devices are liable for all charges and service fees and the individual to whom the BlackBerry is issued, is responsible for the security of the phone.
4. All users must comply with IRM policies dealing with appropriate, responsible and ethical use of technology.
iPhone devices:
1. Any request for an iPhone must have Dean or Director level approval. CSI requires an order be placed via FAU’s Helpdesk system (www.fau.edu/helpdesk).
2. The new user must also request an exchange account if they don't already have one.
3. There is $50 license fee for all iPhone users to be set up on the exchange server.
4. IRM will not support the iPhone other than purchase it for the requestor and set up an exchange account if needed. All support issues, including set up and activation of the iPhone are the responsibility of the requestor. The requestor must go through AT&T and/or Apple to activate and then set up the iPhone.
All users must comply with IRM policies dealing with appropriate, responsible and ethical use of technology.
