This purpose of site is to increase faculty awareness and understanding of the videoconferencing tools available at Florida Atlantic University.  We hope to provide you with a basic understanding of the technology and pedagogy related to academic videoconferencing.

What is it?

Academic videoconferencing (VC) makes it possible for instructors and students to be on different campuses but for the class to be conducted in "real-time" through two-way audio and two-way video.

IRM provides three multimedia-equipped distance learning classrooms that use 2-way audio and video with up to four (4) campuses at one time. Interactive television courses must be booked one semester in advance. These classrooms are available to all colleges on a first-come first-served basis for live transmission of accredited courses to partner campuses. These classes can be broadcast to campuses in Boca, Davie, Ft. Lauderdale, Jupiter, and the Treasure Coast. Interactive courses must be booked with IRM's University Learning Resource (ULR) department by calling 561-297-3698.

IRM also maintains an administrative videoconferencing system for use by faculty and administrators. This conference room enables videoconferencing with Boca, Davie, Ft. Lauderdale, Jupiter, and Treasure Coast campuses at no cost, as well as dial-up videoconferencing with other institutions with similar equipment nationwide. Please note that external videoconferencing with other institutions may incur charges.

Faculty and administrators have access to a wide variety of multimedia tools in the conference room, including a document camera, DVD player, VHS deck, desktop computer, data projector, and laptop connectivity. The conference room seats 25 and may be booked by calling 561-297-3698.  Please allow one week advanced reservation for technical information exchange with appropriate parties.
