The ProQuest® online information service provides access to thousands of current periodicals and newspapers, many updated daily and containing full-text articles from 1986. Subject areas include business, gender/ethnic studies and criminal justice. Newspaper searches include: Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.
Using ProQuest with Blackboard?
Users who are logged into FAU’s Blackboard server can access ProQuest even when they are off campus without having to go through the library’s EZProxy login.
To take advantage of this service, instructors are encouraged to place a link to ProQuest within their Blackboard course space(s).
There are two ways that you can do this:
1. Place a link on your course menu (navigation bar) in Blackboard
- Go to your control panel
- Click on “manage course menu” under “course options”
- Click on the “external link” icon in the top menu bar
- Type in “ProQuest” for the area name
- Type in “http://proquest.umi.com/login/refurl” for the target
- Check the box next to “launch in new window”
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “submit”
2. Place a link within one of your course content areas in Blackboard
- Go to your control panel
- Click on one of the links under “content areas” (for example, “course documents” or “assignments”)
- Click on the “URL” icon in the top menu bar to add an external link
- Type in “ProQuest” for name
- Type in “http://proquest.umi.com/login/refurl” for the URL
- Select “yes” next to “Launch Item in external window”
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “submit”
Linking directly to an article
Go to “http://proquest.umi.com/login/refurl” (make sure you are accessing this through your link in Blackboard as outlined above, otherwise it will not work).
Type in your search word(s) and click “search”.
Mark the article(s) you wish to link to by clicking on the check box next to each title.
Click on the “marked list” tab at the top of the page.
On the next screen, click on the tab that says "my research summary".
Highlight the URL that appears below your article name and copy it (from your menu bar in Internet Explorer click on Edit and then Copy).
Paste this link into your Blackboard course space as an external link (see instructions for #2 above).
