Tuesday, May 6, 2008:

Banner, the University's central database and administrative/academic processing system has been under tremendous load. As a result, many people have experienced difficulty or the inability to get into Self-Service, INB, ePrint and other systems that use the Banner database. To alleviate the problem, the system was restarted at approximately 1:30 pm today. Faculty may certify graduation degree audit by going into Self-Service (via MyFAU), clicking the Faculty Services menu item, and then clicking the Student Information and Registration Menu link (the first item in the Faculty Services Menu). You will then get the Student Information menu; click the View a Student's Academic Transcript link (towards the bottom of the menu) to then look up a student's transcript. For students, the unofficial transcript has been disabled but they can check their Spring 2008 grades using the View Final Grades link in the student menu. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Monday, May 5, 2008:

An abnormally high load is causing Self-Service to run slower than normal. There are intermittent problems with logging into Banner INB.  Database administrators are working to resolve this issue. Email that is sent from FAU is currently being blocked by several Internet Service Providers including AT& T, Comcast and Yahoo (and perhaps others that we are not aware of yet).  Senders may receive a return error message indicating that delivery of the message has been delayed. This was caused by people who unknowingly replied to an email message sent by a spammer that was part of a phishing scam.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008:

Users trying to authenticate to Self-Service via MyFAU were getting an "access denied" message.  This issue has been resolved.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008:

At approximately 10am there was an issue with the system that handles the archiving of email and many users received error messages when trying to send mail.

The Content Management System (CMS) was unavailable from 6:00-9:00pm due to necessary system maintenance.

Monday, April 7, 2008:

Due to registration the systems are saturated. We have done what we can to spread the load, but you will still experience some slowness or system unavailability. Some systems, such as MyFAU, have limits on how many people can simultaneously be logged onto them, so you may see messages such as "Maximum number of users" or "Too many users." Please try the system later. Displaying the various channels in MyFAU adds to its load, so we have temporarily removed the following channels: President's channel, FAU News. You can add these channels back to your home or other tab if you wish. We will return them to the standard Home tab layout next week when load has returned to normal.

April 3, 2008

Blackboard was intermittently unavailable in the afternoon.  System Administrators are  corrected the problem by 3 p.m.. Blackberry/Exchange users may experience slowness when sending/receiving email.  System administators are working to correct the issue.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

There was a massive power outage at the computing center on Tuesday, March 18 that affected all University computing and network systems. Power was restored a short time later and the four-to-six-hour process of bringing all systems back online began immediately. E-mail service has been restored. Messages sent to you during the outage would have bounced back to the sender and that sending server will generally attempt redelivery of returned e-mails every four hours. We are sorry for any convenience this outage may have caused.

Tuesday, March 11, 2008:

The TurnItIn tool in Blackboard was not working.  This issue has been resolved.

Monday, March 10, 2008:

Due to the power shutdown over the weekend, the primary spam filter was off between Saturday, March 8 at 3:30 a.m. and Sunday, March 9 at 10:30 p.m. As a result you may notice spam messages in your inbox. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The filtering system is once again operational. More information about the University's efforts to combat spam is available at http://www.fau.edu/irm/email/spam.php. If you are experiencing problems logging into Blackboard, please try deleting all cookies and temporary internet files and then closing and reopening your browser.  For instructions please visit the Blackboard login page (http://blackboard.fau.edu). Access to Financial Aid information and Transcripts (via MyFAU) was unavailable for several hours.  This issue has been resolved.          Blackberry email service was down nationwide for several hours this afternoon.

Thursday, January 31, 2008:

This morning's maintenance on the Blackboard database took longer than expected.  The Blackboard server was unavailable from 3am until 9:30am.

Tuesday, January 8, 2008:

We are currently experiencing slowness in Banner due to the high volume of users that are accessing it at this time. Because of a possible data issue with Blackboard, activity for some students, such as posting an assignment or a quiz, or other activity in Blackboard before 3 pm Monday (1/7/2008) may have been removed. We are exploring the possibility of getting individual data from backups. Please note that backups will not cover the period between the backup creation and the data issue Monday afternoon.  We ask that  you check your Blackboard course and let us know if anything is missing. We are currently experiencing slowness in Banner due to the high volume of users that are accessing it at this time.

Monday, January 7, 2008:

At around 9:00am we experienced an issue in Blackboard that caused instructors to get a "database error" when trying to access the course control panel. We restarted Blackboard and that resolved the issue. Since this is the first week of the semester all systems are saturated. We have done what we can to spread the load, but you will still experience some slowness or system unavailability. Some systems, such as MyFAU, have limits on how many people can simultaneously be logged onto them, so you may see messages such as "Maximum number of users" or "Too many users." Please try the system later.
