Florida Atlantic University, the fifth public university in Florida, opened its doors in 1964 with an enrollment of 867 upper-division and graduate students. In 1984, FAU admitted its charter freshman class, becoming a four-year institution. By 2008, enrollment university-wide had grown to more than 26,000. Full-time students account for 52% of the total enrollment. FAU enrolled 2,800 first-time-college students for fall 2008. Students are enrolled from 139 different countries and 48 states plus the District of Columbia. |

| In 2007-2008, over 35,000 enrollments were recorded in the Lifelong Learning programs -- 20,033 enrollments on the Boca Raton campus and 14,300 enrollments on the MacArthur campus. The Treasure Coast is projecting an enrollment over 1,000 this year. Lectures on the three campuses are offered in three terms: fall, winter and springs. | ||||||
