What is Instructional Design?

The Instructional Design Team facilitates the development and design of curriculum projects for online, hybrid and face-to-face curriculum. Educause describes instructional design as "the process of conceptualizing and creating a series of activities, assignments, and assessments to achieve specific goals and objectives" (2010). We can help to identify course objectives and instructional challenges and recommend tools that will help the faculty members meet their instructional goals. We utilize a team approach, where the faculty are the subject matter experts, OIT provides Bb technical and training support and the instructional designer helps create a learning environment.
